About Humankind Insights.

A small independent research publication covering the structural decisions that shape American household life. Sober, plain-English briefs — not opinion, not analysis — on the markets where structural change can plausibly move the needle.

What this publication is

Humankind Insights publishes longer-form research briefs on the consumer-facing markets where information asymmetry, uneven regulation, and structural friction routinely produce sub-optimal household outcomes. Our focus categories are: consumer credit, professional services, residential mortgage and real estate, retirement and Medicare, and household healthcare decisions.

Each brief is structured the same way: the structural shape of the problem, the consumer behavior pattern, the structural response in the market, and (where applicable) one or more concrete examples vetted to a published standard. We do not publish opinion. We do not publish hot-take analysis. We publish what our research desk can defend in writing.

Who Theo is

Theo Kessler is the founding editor of Humankind Insights. He spent the first decade of his career as a research lead and senior editor at established American think tanks and policy publications, with prior positions on consumer-credit, professional-services, and household-finance research desks. Humankind Insights is the publication he wished had existed when he was on the consumer side of those markets.

What we evaluate

Every product, service, platform, or institution recommended in a sponsored brief is independently evaluated against a written standard by the Desk for at least 30 days before publication. The standard is documented per category and made available to consumers on request. We do not publish a recommendation without a documented evaluation. Several sponsored briefs have been canceled and the slots refunded when the underlying product did not meet the standard.

What we are not

Humankind Insights is not a Registered Investment Advisor. It does not provide personalized financial, legal, tax, medical, or insurance advice. Nothing in any brief is a recommendation that you specifically should buy, sell, hold, hire, or otherwise transact with any product or service named.

Independence

Humankind Insights is independently owned. It is not owned by any bank, brokerage, insurance carrier, lender, debt-relief firm, law firm, accounting firm, or contractor — nor by any matching platform operating in those categories. Sponsored briefs are clearly labeled. The editorial desk has final authority on every published piece.
